Recreating the Maya sound/Recreando el sonido maya
To appreciate the acoustic effects produced by the thistle-shaped Mayan drum, we have made replicas with dimensions close to those observed in museums as well as images preserved in polychrome vases of the classic period. We notice that the original drums in the museums do not have holes or pegs through the neck, like some African drums do, which indicates that the hide was extended with cords tied around the conical neck.
